How Progressive Candidates Counter Big Money
Summary
Sacramento City Council member Mai Vang discusses her challenge to incumbent Congresswoman Doris Matsui in California’s 7th District. Vang, a daughter of Hmong refugees, explains that her decision to run stemmed from Matsui’s perceived lack of urgency on immigration and ICE issues during a meeting. The conversation covers Vang’s background as a community organizer, her strategy to defeat a well-funded incumbent through grassroots mobilization, and the broader voter frustration with establishment politics.
